Meet Alina: Manager of Direct Marketing and Teddy Roosevelt Enthusiast
Our ShipMates are to credit for creating and maintaining this culture and making VeriShip such a fun place to work.
Get to know the people behind the magic and their contributing roles through our ShipMate Spotlight Interview series. Check out the previous ShipMate Spotlights, here.
When did you start at VeriShip?
I started working at VeriShip at the end of March, so I’ve been onboard the ship for 3 months now!
What are the three things that make you want to come and work for VeriShip every day?
Definitely the people, how interesting my work is, and our culture guilds – I love the Harry Potter guild in particular!
What is the coolest thing you are working on right now?
I am helping to build strategy on how we connect with customers. It’s an interesting challenge that combines operations, tech, and marketing! I love being a part of it.
What are the best and worst purchases you’ve ever made?
Best purchase was probably my cat Bug, worst purchase was any pair of high-heels I own… I hate uncomfortable shoes!
What “terrible” movie do you secretly love?
Labyrinth with David Bowie. It’s not terrible, it’s just a “cult classic!”
What’s the most ridiculous/useless fact you know?
Did you know that Pope John Paul the II is an honorary Harlem Globetrotter? Now you do!
If you could meet one U.S. president from the past, who would that be and why?
Theodore Roosevelt. He’s a fascinating man who always pushed forward, despite many challenges including childhood asthma, depression, and personal tragedies. The quote he used to describe his approach to life was: “Get action. Do things; be sane; don’t fritter away your time; create, act, take a place wherever you are and be somebody; get action.” I think that’s very powerful and motivating.
If you were the CEO of a company, name one thing you would require all of your employees to do and one thing you would ban from the office.
I would require all employees to take a day off and volunteer – giving back to the causes you most love in life is important! And I would ban turning down the air conditioner below 70 degrees; I hate being cold!
What is your most used emoji?
Probably the upside down face, it’s a mood.
If you had one extra hour of free time a day, how would you use it?
I would like to think I’d spend it riding my bike, catching up on reading, or practicing my water coloring, but let’s be honest… I would probably sleep.
What are three places you want to visit before you die?
Thailand, Scotland, and Japan! Definitely all on my bucket list.
If you were the eighth dwarf, what would your name be?
Since Sleepy is already taken… Chatty; I love talking and interacting with people.
If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Wasabi seaweed snacks from Trader Joe’s. They’re super tasty, healthy, and low-cal enough that I could eat them for the rest of my life.
What are you hilariously bad at?
Directions! I can’t find my way out of a wet paper bag.
What is the one quality you value about your coworkers/VeriShip as a whole?
I love the sense of fun and teamwork our work culture has. Coming to work everyday feels like going to a big family reunion.
