Parcel Forum 2016 Recap
Recently, the VeriShip team attended Parcel Forum to connect with other parcel and logistics professionals and gain insights about the trends impacting the shipping industry. This year, however, we were there to share some of our own. Beyond having our own booth, two of our top thought leaders also presented at the event as featured speakers, discussing Big Data and how it pertains to shippers and other parcel professionals.
Big Data is a growing topic of interest across countless industries. With VeriShip’s heavy emphasis on and knowledge surrounding the field of data, it made sense to discuss how parcel shippers can apply knowledge about Big Data to their shipping spend into order to save themselves money.
Our presentation, “How Big Data Can Save Big Dollars,” discussed how customers’ expectations for ever-quicker deliveries are resulting in rising costs driven by complicated carrier service guides and equally complicated carrier contracts. Yet within every shipper’s shipping profile, there are insights that can help reduce those costs. That’s why data is so critical—to drive the situational awareness needed to understand the costs driving parcel spend, a shipper must employ a deep level of data analysis, with Big Data tools and techniques that help them understand incredibly large information sets.
Top 3 Considerations for Driving Down Parcel Shipping CostsEvery year, companies spend massive amounts of money on parcel shipping with carriers like UPS® and FedEx®. But where does that money actually go?
The challenge, of course, is for shippers to not only access data, but to understand it and leverage it effectively by investing in data capture, storage, and analysis capabilities. In our presentation, we discussed ways that shippers can do exactly that, illuminating and clarifying the complicated and often overlooked issue of Big Data usability.

We enjoyed meeting others in the industry and discussing the challenges and opportunities facing the industry. We left Dallas more convinced than ever that data is at the core of parcel’s future.
