VeriShip’s workplace culture, in the words of customer engagement manager Dwynn Evans, is collaborative, communicative, and creative. Our ShipMates are to credit for creating and maintaining this culture and making VeriShip such a fun place to work.

Get to know the people behind the magic and their contributing roles through our ShipMate Spotlight Interview series. Check out the previous ShipMate Spotlights, here.

In the office, Dwynn can always be found with a smile on her face and a story to tell. Dwynn is a frequent traveler, avid podcast listener, and a key player on the customer engagement and customer support team. Dwynn joined the VeriShip family three years ago and it’s been smooth sailing ever since.

What excites you about working at VeriShip?

Hands down our mission and culture. Everyone in the company conveys their expertise, passion, and dedication. We work collectively to accomplish our goals and we aren’t afraid of failing. I think a lot of companies stifle creativity by leaving little to no room for error, but that’s not how we operate and it’s stemmed great success. We’re growing rapidly which I think is a good indicator that we’re doing something right.

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?

Work-related, building out our engagement model for our customers. It’s an ongoing process, but we want to show our commitment to them through continuous development and an improved customer experience. Outside of work, I’m learning how to code through the University of Kansas Coding Boot Camp. Being “around” tech is no longer good enough, I want to be “in it.” Women have proven to do amazing things in tech and hopefully I can add to that.

What’s your favorite travel destination?

Oahu, Nassau, Bimini. See the trend?

What are you passionate about?

It sounds silly, but my focus lately has been to seize every moment. I no longer wait for extraordinary opportunities, but seize common occasions. I don’t ever want to look back and think “life happened” if that makes sense.

What was the best concert you ever attended?

I’d say it’s a tie. I’m a frequent concert-goer so I take a couple of things into consideration (location, setlist, audience, etc.) but it would have to be between Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé. They’re both phenomenal entertainers and great to watch.

Who inspires you?

I have quite a few but we will start with my top 3, I think they are all important in different ways. First up, my mom. It’s cliché but it’s the truth. She’s the definition of unconditional love and hard work. Her influence is immeasurable. Next, Cheryl Strayed, she’s the author of Tiny Beautiful Things and Brave Enough. Her books are like mini instruction manuals for the soul. Last, but not least, Sheryl Sandberg, author and COO of Facebook. Her journey, not just through tech, but through life has captivated me. Lean In and Option B are must reads.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

A polyglot. I mean, how cool would that be.

Do you have an office nickname?

Not really, but depending on the customer my name ranges from Dwayne to JoAnn.
